“An individual has not started living until [s]he can rise above the narrow confines of [her] individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.” -Martin Luther King Jr.

After reading this quote in Chris Guillebeau’s A Brief Guide to World Domination, I fell silent to a new way of thinking. It wasn’t even like the same afternoon, in the same house, in the same world. My eyes became open to possibilities I had never thought of before. And I caution you; you may feel a little giddy after reading this yourself.

You may have thoughts running feverishly through your head of everything you’ve always thought you couldn’t do, being done. And you may come to some startling fresh realizations. My transition after reading this brought me to these bold conclusions:

Yes, I CAN do something good for myself, I CAN do something good for other people, I CAN make all the money I want to, and I CAN change the world! These are no longer independent thoughts of each other. We’ve been forced to believe that if we help others, we can’t help ourselves. Or if we want to make a lot of money in our lifetime, there is absolutely no way we can change the world at the same time.

But I’m telling you (actually, Chris is) that you can do this too. There is a whole network of people I have discovered that are doing what they want to do and helping others. Like Cheryl and Lisa, a pair of ladies who sold their houses, cars, everything and decided to travel the world, writing and volunteering…in their mid forties! Then there is Kristin Norris with her unique outlook (which includes too much fun and great lifestyle advice) on life with Instigationology. And if you need some humor, Life Without Pants blogger, Matt Cheuvront offers sound, realistic advice and musings.

Like I said, there are people out there living their dreams and doing not what is expected of them, but doing what they have a passion for, all while thinking less about themselves and more about others. And you can be one of those as well. So what is stopping you?

  1. Hey! Thanks for the shout out! I like what you’ve got going on here 🙂

  2. Thanks Kristin! It’s slowly building, but you have to start somewhere right?? And yes, I’m a new life long fan of Instigationology…it’s in my favs. I think you are too cool.

  3. Great post and thanks for the shout out here. It’s all very weird to me, what’s been going on lately – to get fired and go through that, then somehow end up…dare I say, “better” for it? Very odd but liberating feeling. I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead! Thanks again 🙂

    • Matt, I bet it has been a roller coaster for you. But liberating is such a perfect word. I am excited for what’s ahead for both of us…how could you not be?! Keep in touch!

  4. Eye opening post for sure ms. alexandriar,
gonna start thinking about what’s stopping me, oh yea….NOTHING!

  5. Thanks for the props, Alexandriar!

Looks like you’re doing great things here too. Good luck with your own world domination plans.

    All best,

    cg
